Navi Mumbai: Although the Panvel Municipal Council (PMC) has demarcated the no-parking zones, residents allege that illegal parking is a regular feature in the city.
According to the civic officials, important junctions and roads were declared no-parking zones two years ago. With vehicles occupying either side of the roads, residents have no space to walk.
“Although the market is a no-parking zone, vehicles are parked on both sides causing congestion and the authorities remain mute,” said Rohini Mhatre, a Panvel resident.
Traffic cops said that, with a 40 member staff including officers and one towing vehicle, it was difficult to contain the situation. “We have requested for an increase the number of towing vehicles,” a traffic officer said.
Civic chief Mangesh Chitle said that the municipal body was planning to appoint a consultant to resolve the problem.
